Uh-deu-meh is a Korean dialect word which indicates direction but not a fixed coordinate. It is both a place and an emotion, not somewhere to arrive at but rather somewhere you instinctively gesture toward. In this book, one person interprets it through photography, and the other through writing. The fragments each gathered intertwined to form a terrain of emotion.

This zine transforms a 4-minute 1917 silent film into printed form from the perspective of 2024, juxtaposing still images with three layers of text. This composition, seemingly smooth yet misaligned, reveals the impossibility of translating colonial experience and historical trauma.

About Us
Scisson is a coined word derived from the French scission (cut, division) and son (sound, voice). It marks the place where cutting meets speaking, where what is severed begins to be heard and what is spoken becomes clear.
The cuts we make are not mere separations but gestures that give form to sound. A cut clarifies, amplifies, and reveals what lies hidden in the noise. It is a space where fragments find their voices and divisions begin to resonate.
Scisson Press is an independent publishing house founded by art and design journalist and critic Doki Ha and graphic designer Sangmin Cha. Through publishing, we create a space where boundaries dissolve and resonance takes place, where voices encounter and transform one another. We resist institutional standards and pursue critical voices and experimental practices.
Our publications are not fixed outcomes but living processes. They move across poetry and prose, photography and essays, interviews and criticism. We collaborate with writers, critics, curators, translators, and researchers. Each book extends into exhibitions, workshops, readings, and collective research, becoming a shared space for imagination, discussion, and memory.
Scisson is not an end but a beginning. Through cuts and voices, we imagine relations, care for life and explore new possibilities of publishing otherwise.

‘Scisson’은 프랑스어 scission(절단, 분열)과 son(소리, 음성)의 조어입니다.
